✨ New publication in the International Journal on Multicultural Literature ✨

I am delighted to share that my short story «Tangles» has been published in Volume 16, Issue 2 (July 2026) of the International Journal on Multicultural Literature (IJML), an international journal devoted to literary and cultural studies that has, for over fifteen years, brought together scholarly research and creative work by authors from around the world. Peer-reviewed and indexed in Literary Reference Centre Plus (EBSCO Host), the journal fosters dialogue between diverse literary and cultural traditions, providing a space where academic scholarship and creative writing meet.

Tangles (Marañas) is a work of psychological literary fiction with an unsettling atmosphere. During a visit to Monet’s pond at Giverny, Amalia experiences an unexpected panic attack that transports her back to a childhood memory: weekends spent by the Ameca River on Mexico’s Pacific coast. As a child, she was terrified of the willow branches submerged beneath the water and of the mythical water dogs which, she believed, could wrap themselves around her legs. One day, after slipping near the tangled roots, she feels the river seize her in a snare of water, mud and branches while the adults remain oblivious to her terror. From that moment, the story weaves together past and present to explore the body’s memory, the fears of childhood that never found words, and the enduring presence of silent trauma. Through richly sensory language and layered symbolism, branches, hair and water become images of all that remains entangled within memory and can only begin to be understood many years later.

It has been a privilege to be part of this issue and to share its pages with writers from such diverse backgrounds and literary traditions. My thanks also go to him for the editorial dedication that, issue after issue, continues to sustain a journal devoted to the exchange of ideas and to the diversity of voices that enrich contemporary literature.
