I am pleased to share the publication of my work in Prosopisia (Vol. XVI, No. 2, 2025), an editorial space in India devoted to poetry and creative writing. For me, this appearance marks a meaningful moment: not only for what it represents in terms of international circulation, but also for the opportunity to place a voice from Mexico in dialogue with a wide community of readers, sensibilities and literary traditions.
The text, titled From the depths of the Ahuehuete, I speak, takes shape as a lyrical piece in three sections — The Tree, The Woman and The Universe and Time — which function both as narrative fragments and as instruments of reflection. Through this structure, the ahuehuete operates not only as a natural figure but as a symbolic axis: a living substance traversed by time, erosion and persistence. In counterpoint, the female voice introduces an embodied dimension of experience — memory, loss, reconstruction — while the third section broadens the frame towards a cosmic and temporal perspective that rethinks the scale of the personal.
One of the text’s central impulses is to explore the productive tension between roots and displacement, between permanence and transit. At this intersection, migration appears not merely as geographical movement but as an existential condition: a way of inhabiting exposure, of translating oneself, of sustaining continuity even as coordinates shift. The writing thus seeks to hold together two forces often conceived as opposites: rootedness (what founds us) and the impulse to depart (what transforms us). Rather than resolving this tension, the text takes it up as a condition of the living.
I share this news with gratitude, and with the hope that the reading may open—if only for an instant—a space of recognition: that place where the intimate brushes against the collective, and where language attempts to name, without closing them down, the forms of renewal.
